The McRae-Helena Police Department announces the addition of a certified instructor to its staff. On March 23, 2018, Lieutenant Scott Hooks completed an 80 hour POST Instructor Training course. This is an intense class with a large fail rate because of how demanding the curriculum is. Lt. Hooks is the first Officer with the McRae-Helena Police Department to hold the title of Instructor.
McRae-Helena Police Department will now be able to host training at our training facility for MHPD officers as well as officers from other agencies. Lt. Hooks now has the training and certification to write new training course lesson plans that fit the specific needs of MHPD. He will also be able to choose from several hundred training courses that are already prepared and approved by POST. The City of McRae-Helena and McRae-Helena Police Department are excited about being able to host these classes because it will provide an opportunity to bring officers to our community to train that may not otherwise have these training opportunities. Plans are to host several training classes per year.
“I am proud of Lt. Hooks for obtaining this title; it is not something that the State of Georgia gives people who don’t deserve or work hard for it. Being able to host classes here will be a huge asset to our Department and surrounding agencies," said Police Chief Glenn Giles
